Schools Superintendent Matthew Friedman is expected to accept a job in another district.

Ocean City Board of Education President Chris Halliday released a statement on the district’s website about Schools Superintendent Matthew Friedman’s expected resignation for a position as superintendent at the Quakertown Community School district in Pennsylvania.

Here is the statement:

Dear OCSD Families:

As president of the Ocean City Board of Education, I have the privilege and responsibility of sharing news, regardless of the circumstances, with the Ocean City school community, including the families of our students.

With that in mind, most of you have already learned via local media, social media and through your colleagues, that the Bucks County Herald published a story on Friday announcing Ocean City Superintendent, Dr. Matthew Friedman, as a finalist for the Quakertown Community School District superintendent position.

The Quakertown Board of Education is expected to approve Dr. Friedman for the open position this Tuesday, March 28.

If approved, Dr. Friedman plans to accept the superintendent position in Quakertown. As professionals, most of us have had to make difficult career decisions and realize the weight of such decisions. Dr. Friedman chose his path forward after much consideration and deliberation with his family.

Dr. Friedman is committed to continue in his role as superintendent of Ocean City School District until the time of his departure. On behalf of the Ocean City BOE, I extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Friedman for his exceptional service to the district. I also want to assure each of you that he and our Board are committed to work together to welcome a visionary and passionate educational leader to Ocean City Schools as soon as possible.

The board of education will provide additional details about the superintendent search process next week. We have learned much about the process and benefit from previously compiled research, which includes staff and community surveys.

It is a privilege to serve the students and families of Ocean City and our exceptional school district.

Sincerely,

Chris Halliday

President
