Babies who have not yet learned to walk can participate in the Sara the Turtle Festival “Diaper Derby” Crawling Competition on Wednesday, June 27, at Excursion Park in Sea Isle City

On Wednesday, June 27, Sea Isle City’s Division of Tourism will host the resort’s annual Sara the Turtle Festival at Excursion Park, JFK Boulevard and Pleasure Avenue, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. (rain date: June 28). The festival will include a variety of free family activities, live entertainment, nature displays and the chance to pet a menagerie of exotic animals.

Festival-goers of all ages will enjoy live animal exhibits by New Jersey Nature and the Wetlands Institute, featuring Diamondback Terrapin Turtles, snakes and other critters. The 2018 Sara the Turtle Festival will also have strolling entertainment, face painters, inflatable bounce houses, a sand art booth, and a turtle nesting display by Sea Isle Terrapin Rescue – as well as exhibits by the Sea Isle City Environmental Commission, the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, the Sea Isle City Beachcomber Guides and other organizations that will offer information and hands-on displays.

Non-walking babies are invited to participate in the festival’s charming “Diaper Derby” crawling contest, which will begin at 7:10 p.m. at Excursion Park. Then, at 7:20 p.m., boys and girls, ages 2 to 12, can compete in the evening’s “Turtle Races” (kid’s sprinting races) on the JFK Boulevard Beach.  Awards will be presented to the winners of both competitions.

The Sara the Turtle Festival will culminate with a musical presentation by The Turtlesingers, who will introduce audience members to a variety of live turtles as they sing about the important role turtles play in nature. or additional information about the 2018 Sara the Turtle Festival, phone 263-8687 or visit www.VISITSICNJ.com.
