On Dec. 14, the members of the Sea Isle City Women’s Civic Club – the longest standing civic organization in the resort – made sizable donations to four local charities.
The donations were distributed during a Holiday Luncheon inside Sea Isle’s Community Lodge, where civic club members hold their weekly meetings. The Community Lodge is also where the Civic Club hosted their annual Autumn Card Party Fundraiser in September, which helped raise thousands of dollars for charity.
During the Holiday Luncheon, the members of the Civic Club Board presented checks for $1,000 each to representatives from The Branches Episcopal Outreach Center in Rio Grande, Saint Maximilian Kolbe Parish/Saint Casmir Food Pantry in Woodbine, and the United Methodist Church of Sea Isle City Food Cupboard. An additional $1,000 was also sent to Holy Redeemer Home Care and Hospice in Cape May Court House.
“Our club members vote on which four charities will receive donations,” said Civic Club President Lyn Long. “The Autumn Card Party is where we raise most of the money, but we also hold different events that raise funds throughout the year, and we collect donations directly from our members as well.”
“The Civic Club has two main missions, supporting charities and being a social outlet for our members,” added Long.
A non-profit organization that has been in existence for over 100 years, the Sea Isle City Women’s Civic Club meets every Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. inside the Community Lodge at 300 JFK Boulevard, where members enjoy playing bridge, mahjong and other games.
