On Saturday, members of VFW Post 1963 Auxiliary in Sea Isle City spent the afternoon making sure all of the snacks, toiletries and other goodies to members of the military were all set to go in this year’s “Adopt-a-Troop” program.

For the 222 members of the auxiliary, it is a way to do their part to show appreciation for those who serve.

“This is something we do yearly, and something we do to recognize the men and women who protect our precious freedom,” explained Auxiliary President Patti Lloyd. “We do it for them.”

This year the U.S. Navy’s Golden Eagles of Patrol Squadron Nine, stationed in Washington state, were the recipients of their affection.

The service men and women will receive all sorts of items. Lloyd said businesses and organizations helped the Auxiliary by providing some of the goodies.

“We collected cookies, cupcakes, 37 cans of shaving cream, batteries, feminine products and about 53 bags of candy,” she noted.

In addition to those items, the packages included T-shirts that read: “Sea Isle City VFW Post 1963 proudly supports Golden Eagles Patrol Squadron Nine.”

Each year, the Auxiliary picks someone with Sea Isle ties so that the message is even more special for those who are serving and also the Auxiliary members and volunteers who put them together.

This year the squadron was selected because Petty Officer 3rd Class Anthony “Haas” Moore of Patrol Squadron Nine spent his summer vacations in Sea Isle. He is also the grandson of VFW Post 1963 Auxiliary members Terry and Peggy Moore.

Once the boxes were packed and ready to be shipped, a framed photo of Patrol Squadron Nine was unveiled on the wall of Post 1963 while Petty Officer Moore looked on electronically via Skype.

“We are very proud of Haas, the grandson of VFW Post 1963 Auxiliary members Terry and Peggy Moore, of Sea Isle City, and the son of Wes and Judy Moore, of Philadelphia,” Lloyd said. “We want to let everyone know how proud we are of all of our service men and women.”
