The new ordinance includes a standard rate for contractors to pay police officers and the city for traffic control at construction sites.

Sea Isle City’s Police Department has won reaccreditation from the New Jersey State Association of Police Chiefs.

“Accreditation is a time-proven method of assisting law enforcement agencies to measure and improve their performance. It involves the adoption of standards and a clear statement of professional objectives,” Mayor Leonard Desiderio said in a statement Tuesday while announcing the honor for the department.

Police departments are evaluated by a team of independent assessors who verify that the necessary standards have been successfully implemented.

“Accreditation represents a significant professional achievement for law enforcement agencies in New Jersey; and it confirms that sound and effective policies and procedures are followed by the department,” Desiderio said.

Sea Isle’s Police Department was first accredited in 2014. This was the fourth time the department has achieved accredited status.

“This time around, the assessment revealed no issues with the department; and we were unanimously affirmed for accreditation by the State Chiefs of Police board that oversees the program,” Desiderio said.

Desiderio congratulated Sea Isle Police Chief Anthony Garreffi and the entire department and also acknowledged Capt. Steve Conte, who oversaw and managed the department’s reaccreditation program.
