Trash and recycling containers will help keep the Promenade cleaner during the off-season months.

Keep it clean when you come to Sea Isle City, folks.

Sea Isle has been putting trash and recycling cans on the Promenade and in the downtown business district to give everyone the proper place to dispose of their trash.

“We like a clean city,” Sea Isle spokeswoman Katherine Custer said matter-of-factly.

Normally, this is the time of year when Sea Isle places its trash and recycling cans in storage to prevent them from blowing around in the fall and winter winds.

But city officials have decided to put trash and recycling cans in strategic places around town this fall to cut down on the litter – all with the hope of making an even better impression on visitors who are coming to the shore for off-season getaways.

“It seems more and more people are in Sea Isle City during the shoulder season, so it’s a good idea to have a really clean city,” Custer said. “We want to keep Sea Isle clean, and we’re going to put litter in its proper place.”

Trash and recycling containers are also found in the downtown business district.

Councilwoman Mary Tighe said during a Council meeting Tuesday that city officials have been receiving emails from the public about the need for having trash cans along the Promenade and downtown business district.

Tighe said she spoke to City Business Administrator George Savastano about it and since then, trash cans have been “placed strategically” along the Promenade and downtown.

She noted that she hopes Sea Isle “won’t have an issue” with people failing to properly dispose of their trash now.

Posts on social media indicated that the trash cans are not only for run-of-the-mill litter, but are also a place for dog owners to properly dispose of their pets’ poop.

Dogs are prohibited on the beaches and Promenade during Sea Isle’s busy spring and summer tourism season. But the beaches and Promenade open up to dogs during the quieter off-season months.

Sea Isle’s regulations state that when dogs are allowed on the beach they must be restrained on a leash no longer than 6 feet. Owners are also responsible for curbing their dogs at all times and cleaning up their messes “without delay.”

A prominently located sign next to the gazebo on the Promenade makes it clear that dogs are prohibited on the Promenade and beaches during the summer months.

Dog owners and everyone else will find trash and recycling cans at the following locations:

On the Promenade at 38th Street, 40th Street, two sets at John F. Kennedy Boulevard, 42nd Street and 44th Street.

In the downtown district at 40th Street and Landis Avenue, two sets at JFK Boulevard near Pleasure Avenue, 39th Street and Landis, West Jersey Avenue and Landis and at the Townsends Inlet Waterfront Park.
