Members of the Upper Township varsity football team were honored by Sea Isle City officials for capturing the Cape Atlantic Junior Football League championship.

The Indians capped off a perfect 10-0 season by winning the title game on Nov. 26.

Team members received congratulatory certificates and posed for photos during a ceremony at the start of Sea Isle’s City Council meeting on Tuesday.

“Going undefeated is a really tough thing to do,” Council President J.B. Feeley told the players during the ceremony.

The team is made up of seventh and eighth graders. The head coach is Sea Isle Police Chief Anthony Garreffi.

Garreffi said the team had finished in second place in previous seasons, but this year turned in an astounding effort to take the championship.

“They went out and did it. I’m really proud of them,” Garreffi said.
