The Sea Isle City Women’s Civic Club has donated $8,000 to local charities for the holiday season.
During its annual holiday luncheon at the Oar House Pub on Dec. 1, the club presented four checks of $2,000 each to charities in Cape May County.
The charities included the Branches Episcopal Outreach Center in Rio Grande; Holy Redeemer Home Care/Hospice/Food Pantry in Swainton; Saint Maximilian Kolbe Parish/Saint Casmir Food Panty in Woodbine; and the Sea Isle City United Methodist Church Food Cupboard.
The donations followed a year of socializing and playing a variety of games together by the club’s members – as well as collecting donations and hosting a successful Game Day Luncheon-Fundraiser in September.
The Women’s Civic Club is a nonprofit organization that has been in existence for more than 100 years, making it the longest-standing civic group in Sea Isle, according to a news release.
“Our main mission is to give to charities, and our annual fundraiser in September and the donations that our members contribute each and every Tuesday help us do that,” said Lyn Long, the club’s president.
“However, another part of our mission is to provide sociability to our members. We work as a team to achieve goals, we support each other, we celebrate birthdays, and we send cards to members who are ill. In short, we care about one another and our community,” she added.
Club meetings take place every Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Sea Isle’s Community Lodge at 300 JFK Boulevard. Members enjoy bridge, mahjong, pinochle and other table-top games each week. Ladies and gentlemen alike are welcome to join the fun.
