Following is an announcement from Sea Isle City Mayor Leonard Desiderio during the City Council meeting Tuesday morning:
A few months ago, our new CFO, Jen McIver, suggested that we do things a little different next year with our beach tags. In the past, our city staff has developed the designs for each of our beach tags (Seasonal, Christmas holiday, St. Patrick’s and Veterans’ tags).
This year, we opened up the design process to some of the most creative and artistic people in our community – our children. We advertised the program on our website and in our newsletters; and we received 197 entries for the design of our beach tags.
Over the past couple weeks, various members of our community have met with Jen, and today I’m pleased to announce the winners of the Beach Tag Art Contest.
In the Veterans tag category, there were 30 entries. Our selector for this category was our own Joe Griffies. After reviewing all of the entries, the winning artist is Mason Corey, who is 14 years old, and lives in Woolwich Township, N.J.
In the Christmas holiday tag category, there were 24 entries. Our selector for this entry was Patti Lloyd, president of VFW Post 1963 Auxiliary, joined by a couple other members of the VFW Auxiliary. After reviewing all of these, the winning artist is Emelyn Costello, who is 12 years old, and she lives in Haddonfield, N.J.
In the St. Patrick’s holiday tag category, there were 21 entries. Our selector for this category was Commander Mark Lloyd of VFW Post 1963, along with other members of Post 1963. After reviewing all of these, the winning artist is Kevin Andrews, who is 12 years old.
Finally, in the Seasonal tag category, there were 122 entries. Our selector for this category was Pat Allen, our longtime manager of beach tag collection operations. After reviewing all of these, the winning artist is Claire Konrad, who is 13 years old, and hails from the great city of Philadelphia.
In other news, this weekend is Fall Family Festival. As usual, on Saturday we’ll be having our vendors line up along the Promenade; our food court on JFK between Landis and the Promenade; our free children’s entertainment and rides at Excursion Park; and on Sunday, we’ll have our annual Antique Auto Show.
I also want to announce that City Hall will be opened for business Saturday morning from 8:30 to noon. The administration will be opening up City Hall operations on four Saturdays during the year, to provide more opportunities for folks who would choose to come to City Hall in person, and perhaps aren’t able to do so from Monday to Friday.
