Sea Isle City will begin livestreaming its City Council meetings on April 28, giving members of the public the option of watching online instead of having to show up in person to participate in the local government.
The city said in a statement that livestreaming continues Sea Isle’s “longstanding policy of engaging with the public and keeping everyone informed of timely information.”
The livestreaming process will allow anyone to remotely view and hear all future City Council meetings. It will be offered on YouTube. Viewers will not need their own YouTube account or any log-in information to view the meetings while they are livestreamed, or watch them afterwards when they are available as recordings.
The livestream is for viewing and listening only, so anyone who is watching remotely will not be able to call in with questions or comments, city spokeswoman Katherine Custer said.
There will be no limits on the number of people who may watch the Council meetings on YouTube, Custer said.
Here’s how to view City Council meetings being livestreamed:
-- As the City Council meeting is about to begin, go to Sea Isle’s municipal website, https://www.seaislecitynj.us/, and click the “City YouTube (Live Stream)” link near the top of the home page. Viewers can also access Sea Isle’s YouTube channel by clicking the “YouTube” link at the bottom of the homepage of the city’s municipal website.
-- Once viewers arrive on Sea Isle’s YouTube homepage, they must click the “Live” link.
-- The meeting will automatically begin to livestream. However, viewers should expect a 10-15 second delay, which is normal.
Additional information that may help while livestreaming:
-- The livestream will not be visible on everyone’s screen until the City Council meeting officially begins, which is typically at 10 a.m.
-- If viewers are on the YouTube channel before the start of the meeting, they will have to “refresh” their screen to view the livestream once the meeting begins.
-- Once the meeting concludes, approximately one hour later the entire City Council meeting will be available for viewing at anyone’s leisure. To watch a replay of any meeting, click the “Live” tab on Sea Isle’s YouTube Channel. All recorded meetings will appear in the lineup from newest to oldest.
Sea Isle will now join many other New Jersey towns and cities that livestream the meetings of their governing bodies. Sea Isle’s Council meetings are typically held twice a month on Tuesdays at 10 a.m.
Councilman Ian Ciseck, who joined the governing body in July after being elected in 2025, had pushed for livestreaming to expand public access and participation in the meetings. He believes livestreaming is way to create more government transparency.
He said members of the public often cannot attend meetings in person on Tuesday mornings because they are at work.
Ciseck said livestreaming would give an opportunity “for everyone to see, for everyone to hear” the meetings without having to be there in person.
