Sea Isle City’s annual “Community Day” on May 3 included a City Council meeting, a free document shredding event, a municipal bicycle auction, and a meet-and-greet with city officials and representatives from local civic organizations.
Also, numerous people were honored during the annual Community Day Awards Ceremony.
At the start of the ceremony, Mayor Leonard Desiderio introduced the four young artists who won top honors in his 2025 Beach Tag Art Contest, during which scores of students submitted designs for Sea Isle’s seasonal, winter holiday, St. Patrick’s Day, and veterans beach tags.
The winning artists included Aubrey Ganster, 11, of Villanova, Pa., (seasonal beach tag); Santino Quercetti, 12, of Glen Mills, Pa., (winter holiday); Julianna Romano, 16, of Ocean View, N.J., (St. Patrick’s Day); and Regan Cunningham, 13, of Ambler, Pa. (veterans).
After the artistic students were honored, 1st Bank of Sea Isle City President and CEO Larry Schmidt announced that the members of VFW Post 1963’s Auxiliary were the bank’s 2025 “Community Partnership Award” recipients.
Schmidt presented the Auxiliary members with a check for $2,000. At that time, Mayor Desiderio reminded the audience that Post 1963’s Auxiliary is the largest VFW Auxiliary in the state of New Jersey.
Finally, the mayor introduced the recipients of his 2025 “Do the Right Thing” awards, which honor people who donate their time and talents in varying ways to worthy causes in Sea Isle and beyond.
This year’s Do the Right Thing recipients – who were noted for their “kindness and selflessness” and “because they set an example for others to follow” – were Austin Ermold, Tom Delozier, Bernadette Delozier, Art Iannone, Bette Keller, Terry Moore, Dylan Ramirez and Doug Williamson.
