A fireworks display and other special events will help families to celebrate the extended Fourth of July weekend in Sea Isle City.
The holiday fun begins Thursday, July 3, when Sea Isle’s Recreation Office will host the second annual Bike Decorating Contest & Family Dance Party from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Excursion Park.
During the Bike Decorating Contest, kids can show off their decorated bicycles, tricycles, wagons, scooters and strollers – all while competing for prizes.
All decorative themes are welcomed, including patriotic, superheroes, sports and animals, but no motorized bikes or scooters will be allowed.
Families may register in person on July 3 starting at 9:45 a.m. Judging for “Individual” entries (age 12 and under) will take place from 10 to 10:30 a.m. “Family” entries will be judged from 10:30 to 11 a.m.
To add to the festivities, music will be provided by a DJ throughout the morning. For more information about the free event, call 609-263-0050.
On Independence Day, Sea Isle’s annual Junior Olympics for children (ages 3 to 12) will take place at Dealy Field, 59th Street and Central Avenue.
Kids will participate in running, jumping and throwing competitions. Families can register on site on the day of the event starting at 9:30 a.m. The games will begin at 10 a.m.
Children will be grouped by age and gender. Olympic-style medals will be presented to the morning’s top winners. The event is sponsored by the city’s Division of Recreation and hosted by volunteers from the Yacht Club of Sea Isle City.
Capping off the festivities on July 4, Sea Isle’s fireworks display will take place at 9:15 p.m. The fireworks will be launched from an ocean barge near 50th Street – making Sea Isle’s entire shoreline a great place for viewing.
Then on Saturday, July 5, families are invited to another “Concert Under the Stars” at 7:30 p.m. at the Excursion Park Band Shell, JFK Boulevard and Pleasure Avenue.
During the concert, the tribute band “The Ultimate Queen Celebration” will perform the music of Queen.
Families are reminded to bring folding chairs or beach blankets for reclining on the park’s lawn during the concert.
