Mayor's Message: Nov. 22

  • News
I want to start off by wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. As you can see, we have the town decorated for the holidays, and this Friday evening we’ll hold our annual Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. at 49th and Central, go down to 84th Street, over to Landis, then back to JFK Boulevard. This is truly a wonderful time of the year; and I hope everybody has the opportunity to enjoy it with their family, friends, and loved ones. I’m pleased to report that, over the past couple months, we’ve had very positive meetings with members of our fishing and surfing communities. We will be implementing beach regulations that continue to provide opportunities for surf fishing on designated beaches during the day, which are mindful and respectful of the bathing and surfing public. There will also be the ability to fish in the evening, nighttime, and early morning hours. I want to thank everyone who participated in these discussions. It was a great example of how folks with different interests were able to recognize and respect each other’s point of view, and ultimately come to agreement on a solution. Following up on our efforts to get changes made to current laws that restrict law enforcement from effectively dealing with disruptive juveniles, last week I co-sponsored a resolution at the New Jersey League of Municipalities Conference in support of additional resources for addressing mass gatherings. This is just another step in our multi-pronged plan of action to ensure that we give our police departments the tools they need to properly do their job. As I’ve said before, we will stay on top of this issue at the local and state level. Finally, I want to report that the administration is hard at work on our budget planning for next year, and as part of our regular process, on December 13th we’ll present the draft five-year capital plan at a 1 p.m. council workshop. As always, please remember, we are one Sea Isle City, and together we’ll be stronger than ever. Mayor Leonard C. Desiderio
