William “Bill” Mammele, a 25-year veteran of the Sea Isle City Police Department, was promoted from lieutenant to captain during a swearing-in ceremony March 18 headed by Mayor Leonard Desiderio.
The ceremony took place at City Hall, where many of Capt. Mammele’s fellow officers and family members gathered to honor him when Desiderio administered the oath.
Mammele began his career with the SICPD in 1997 as a dispatcher. After completing his training at the Cape May County Police Academy in Cape May Court House, he became an officer in 1999.
He was promoted to lieutenant in 2015. As captain, his duties will include training fellow officers and helping to oversee the day-to-day operations of the department.
Mammele now shares the same rank as Capt. Anthony Garreffi, Jr., who is currently serving as officer in charge of the police department.
