Mayor's Message: Dec. 16

  • News
I begin this message with my sincerest thanks to the people of our community for the patience they have shown during the recent road work that has taken place in town, including along Central Avenue and Park Road. I realize that dealing with detours, un-even road surfaces and noise from construction equipment can be very annoying, but they are necessary evils of road reconstruction projects – and I am very grateful for everyone’s understanding. Our 29th annual Mayor’s Holiday Toy and Food Drive is still underway, and once again the people of Sea Isle City are showing a tremendous amount of support for this worthwhile effort, which benefits families in need. I want to thank everyone for their generosity – and I hope you all know what a positive impact your donations make. A decade has passed since two very important local buildings first opened their doors in 2011: the Sea Isle City branch of the Cape May County Library at 48th and Central, and the new Saint Joseph Church on Landis Avenue. Both of these important buildings were greatly needed prior to construction, and they have been put to very good use ever since the first day they began to welcome visitors. As we all know, Saint Joseph Parish is a viable and active organization that has many members who make a positive difference in our community. Similarly, our local library is an extremely valuable institution – in fact, it is the second busiest facility in the County Library’s chain. In addition to providing a boundless amount of information and other resources, the library is also home to the Sea Isle City Historical Museum, which offers a wide variety of vintage artifacts, photographs and historical documents that delight people of all ages. The museum moved into its new location inside the library shortly after the building was dedicated ten years ago, and since then over 65,000 people have taken a walk down Memory Lane and visited the museum. I want to congratulate everyone at Saint Joseph Church, our library, and the Sea Isle City Historical Museum on their tenth anniversaries, and also thank them for all they do to help make Sea Isle City such a wonderful place! Don’t forget that Santa Claus will be in Sea Isle City on Saturday morning, and he will drive through town with the help of the Sea Isle City Volunteer Fire Department. If families want Santa to drive by their homes, they can register their addresses by phoning the City’s Recreation Office by 2 p.m. on Friday. If you plan to ring in the New Year in Sea Isle City, be sure to make a reservation at one of our wonderful restaurants well in advance – and don’t forget that our annual New Year’s Eve fireworks display takes place at 8 p.m. on the JFK Boulevard Beach. Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas! Smile … You’re in Sea Isle, Mayor Leonard C. Desiderio
