Sea Isle City Mayor Leonard Desiderio is urging residents and visitors to stay home and avoid unnecessary travel to limit their possible exposure to the coronavirus pandemic.
“Frankly, if you’re able to stay home, please do so,” he said.
In a video statement posted Friday on the city’s municipal website and Facebook page, Desiderio also appealed to everyone to remain calm and “not let our fears cause divisions amongst us.”
“We’ll get through this by working together,” he said.
He assured Sea Isle residents and property owners that the municipal government remains open and is working to provide all essential services “in the safest possible manner.”
Desiderio’s appeal for people to stay home comes just one day after Cape May County reported its first confirmed case of a local resident infected by COVID-19.
In his closing remarks on the video, Desiderio noted that the city, state and country are facing a “very serious situation,” but expressed confidence that everyone will pull through the crisis.
“I have faith in all of us, and I know we’ll be all right,” he said.
