The Sea Isle City Police Department investigated a phone scam involving the imitation of a police officer and the “spoofing" or fraudulent use of the department's main phone number, according to the police Facebook page.
During the phone call, the suspect identified himself as a Sea Isle police officer and told the victim that they have outstanding warrants out of state that they must pay with gift cards. “We want to inform the public that the Sea Isle City Police Department does not contact subjects with warrants via phone and demand money in lieu of arrest,” the Facebook post said. If anyone receives a phone call from the police department that seems suspicious, hang up the phone, verify the department's phone number (609) 263-4311 and manually call police back. If anyone has experienced a similar fraudulent call like this, please notify the police department.
