It’s been nine months since the declaration of a public health emergency on March 9th, and since that time over 100 executive orders have been issued from the Governor’s office directing a multitude of restrictions, guidelines, and protocols that we must all contend with, and that have altered the ways we conduct our daily lives.
With the resurgence of COVID cases, we’re once again dealing with tightened restrictions on activities and gatherings. I’m asking everybody to do their part – wear a mask, avoid large gatherings, and practice social distancing.
We all know we have a tough few months ahead of us, but the spring and summer of 2021 will be better.
Despite the pandemic, Santa will still be making his annual phone calls to Sea Isle children Thursday. If anyone needs more information on the Santa’s Calling Program, please contact the Community Services Department or visit them on the city’s website.
This Thursday will be the judging for the Holiday Lighting Contest, for those homes and businesses entered in the competition.
Residents Nicholas and Shannon Giordano and their children have added a Christmas tree to Sea Isle City’s 44th Street Beach. The tree is firmly mounted in the sand and has festive ornaments attached for all to enjoy.
The Giordano family invites other members of the community to show their holiday spirit and add more decorations to the tree. While trimming the tree, please keep the environment in mind and use eco-friendly decorations.
Also, on Saturday, December 19, the members of Sea Isle City’s Volunteer Fire Department will be traveling around town on a fire engine with Santa Claus on board. More information about this event will be forthcoming.
I’d like to thank the Police Department for their “No Shave November” fundraising efforts, to help families with cancer. And this year, they’ve extended this to “Don’t Shave December,” and will be donating funds raised this month to the Mayor’s Toy and Food Drive. I’m very grateful to the Police Department for their kindness and spirit of giving with this latest initiative.
Now more than ever, it’s so important for all of us to be there for each other. In addition to the physical effects of the coronavirus, the effects of this pandemic on mental health are staggering. I ask everyone to be patient and be kind to one another; and always remember we are one Sea Isle City and together we’ll be stronger than ever.
Sincerely,
Mayor Leonard Desiderio
