Leonard Desiderio.3On Tuesday, we held a press conference in City Hall to tell people about two very important presentations that are taking place today, October 13, called Sea Isle City Fights Heroin – What You Need To Know. The press conference went very well, and we expect a large number of audience members during the presentations, which are being led by renowned keynote speaker John Kriger. I look forward to telling you more about the Sea Isle City Fights Heroin
presentations in our next newsletter. Many people feel that autumn is the best time of year to be in Sea Isle City – and who can blame them?  After all, many of our restaurants and businesses are still open, our beaches are quiet and inviting, and the weather is usually brilliant. Sometimes during the fall, however, Mother Nature throws us a curve ball, and instead of pleasant weather we end-up with wind, rain and the threat of tidal flooding. Obviously, we were very fortunate that Hurricane Matthew did not make landfall here in Cape May County last week.  Even though we were lucky this time around, we all know that living along the coast comes with occasional challenges. With that in mind, I remind everyone of the importance of adhering to all weather warnings and alerts from our City and County Offices of Emergency Management – because it’s foolish to take any storm lightly. And speaking of the weather, I’d like to thank all those who braved the elements during this year’s Columbus Day Parade, which went off without a hitch despite the rain. After the parade, during this year’s Italian Festival, we were very happy to present a check for $13,000 to the Deborah Heart and Lung Center, which represented the proceeds from the 2016 Gerard A. Desiderio Heart Walk in June. My thanks go to all of the individuals, families and business owners who supported this year’s Heart Walk – your kindness and generosity is greatly appreciated!  Please mark your calendars now for our 2017 Heart Walk, which will take place on Saturday, June 3. Don’t forget that Sea Isle’s 2016 Halloween Parade will take place along Landis Avenue, from 45th to 40th Street, at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 21. Immediately after the parade, don’t miss this year’s Halloween Family Dance Party at Excursion Park, where D.J. Jeff will spin a variety of Halloween dance favorites. To round out that weekend, take your family to Excursion Park for the Sea Isle City Chamber of Commerce and Revitalization’s annual Octoberfest celebration on Saturday, October 22, featuring live German music, hayrides on the beach and other seasonal activities – including an Octoberfest Pie Baking Contest! This week’s “Shout Out” goes to the members of Sea Isle City’s Volunteer Ambulance Corps for their hard work and commitment to our community. --Thank you all! Smile…You’re in Sea Isle!
