Leonard Desiderio.3

Each summer, countless families travel to Sea Isle City simply to frolic on our beaches and swim in the Atlantic Ocean. To help keep everyone safe, we are fortunate to have the members of the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol, who keep an eye on surf conditions and provide assistance when needed. The SICBP has a long-standing commitment to excellence and safety that has been cultivated and passed down for generations – and brothers Hugh and Joe Bowen were fine examples of that commitment. As valued members of our Beach Patrol for many years, the Bowen brothers left an indelible mark on our community that has not been forgotten.  This was clearly evident on July 11, when nearly 200 people gathered on the 43rd
Street Beach to honor Hugh and Joe during a memorial service hosted by the SICBP Alumni Association. I commend all those who were on hand to honor the Bowens; and I‘d like to extend my gratitude to each member of the SICBP, past and present, for all they have done – and continue to do – for us all. On Tuesday evening, I had the pleasure of appearing in this year’s Baby Parade, which featured an amazing gathering of children!  It was a special year for this event, because 2016 marks the 100th Anniversary of Sea Isle’s very first Baby Parade. To honor that milestone, the City’s Division of Tourism invited representatives from the Sea Isle City Women’s Civic Club to serve as the parade’s Grand Marshals because the Civic Club is credited with founding the Baby Parade back in 1916.  If you missed this year’s parade, be sure to check-out the “Recent Photos” section of this newsletter to see some of the fantastic contestants who made the night memorable. Looking ahead, we still have many events coming your way this summer – including free Family Dance Parties with D.J. Jeff on Monday and Thursday nights, “Movies Under the Stars” on Tuesdays, Family Fun Nights each Friday, and our incredible line-up of free “Concerts Under the Stars” every Saturday.  If you’re looking for additional activities for your family, be sure to check-out Beachcomber Guided Tours on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and Sea Isle’s weekly Farmers Market each Tuesday – not to mention the many other events listed on the City’s 2016 calendar.  For more information about “what’s happening” in Sea Isle City, go to www.VISITSICNJ.com or stop by the Welcome Center, which is open seven days a week. This week, I have two “Shout Outs” to share… The first goes to Jim Phillips and his family, long time Sea Isle City residents who now live in Hawaii.  Even though the Phillips clan lives thousands of miles away, distance does not stop them from regularly reading our E-Newsletter.  --We look forward to having the Phillips’ back in Sea Isle soon.  The second Shout Out goes to law enforcement officials all over the nation. –Please know that you have our support! Smile…You’re in Sea Isle! Mayor Leonard C. Desiderio
