Mayor Leonard Desiderio

Even though Labor Day has passed, we still have a lot to look forward to here in Sea Isle City. In addition to a variety of festivals, parades, and other popular attractions that are coming your way this fall, we will also take time to stop and reflect during two special ceremonies in September, which I hope you can attend…

The first is our annual Patriot Day Ceremony at 9 a.m. on September 11. Ever since terrorists attacked our nation in 2001, each year we have honored those who were lost in New York City, southwestern Pennsylvania and at the Pentagon – and we also use the occasion to remind ourselves of the importance of staying vigilant, so we never fall victim to terrorist acts again. With that in mind, I hope you can join us at Veterans Park on September 11 for our annual 9-11 gathering.

I also hope you will be able to attend VFW Post 1963’s annual POW-MIA Recognition Day Ceremony at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 15, at Post 1963, where our community will honor our nation’s military members who served as prisoners of war and those who are still missing in action.

This event is hosted by Post 1963’s Auxiliary, which is the largest VFW Auxiliary in the state of New Jersey – and I am very grateful for the extremely good work the Auxiliary performs!

Another event taking place this month is Sea Isle’s annual Fall Family Festival, which is hosted by our Division of Tourism. This year’s festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday, September 16 and 17 – and both days will feature a variety of popular events, including a huge vendors market, a food court, free amusement rides, live music on Saturday, and an Antique Auto Show and Parade on Sunday.

For additional info about Fall Family Festival, see the special section in this week’s E-Newsletter or phone our Tourism Office at 609-263-8687.

As you may be aware, several times each year we open City Hall for regular business on Saturday mornings, because we know that our property owners have busy lives, and we hope that these occasional extra hours serve as a convenience for everyone in our community.

The next Saturday that City Hall will be open (other than our Police Department, which never closes) will be September 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon, during which time you can pay your tax or utility bills, make in-person inquiries, or simply stop by and speak with one of our City Hall employees.

I want to give a big “Shout Out” and words of thanks to everyone who made the summer of 2023 a success, including the members of Sea Isle City’s Police Department, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Department, Beach Patrol, Department of Public Works, Division of Recreation, Division of Tourism, Water & Sewer Department, our City Hall employees, the staff at our Municipal Marina, and all of our Beach Tag employees.

I also want to thank our Beachcomber Guides, the veterans and auxiliary members of VFW Post 1963, everyone who was involved with this year’s “Shooting Stars” basketball program, the folks who run our fitness classes and summer camps, the members of our Municipal Boards and Commissions, our local business owners, the member of Sea Isle City’s Chamber of Commerce & Revitalization, the volunteers at Sea Isle’s Historical Museum, the local church groups who host community events and support charitable causes, our local civic organizations for all the good work they perform throughout the year, the members of City Council, our year-round residents and second homeowners, our visitors, and everyone else who helps make Sea Isle City the amazing community it is. Thank you all!

Smile … You’re in Sea Isle,

Mayor Leonard C. Desiderio
