Mayor Leonard Desiderio

Even though we have had some challenging weather conditions in recent weeks, we were very fortunate to have ideal weather during our two-day Skimmer Festival, which took place over Father’s Day Weekend.

In addition to the thousands and thousands of people who attended our Skimmer activities, I want to thank our municipal employees in the Tourism Office and Department of Public Works for making the festival a reality. My thanks also go to Jim and Karen Ambro for hosting the Skimmer Antique Auto Show, which featured 105 amazing vehicles.

We were also fortunate to have very nice weather during last weekend’s Steve Libro Men’s Basketball Tournament, which brought nine teams together for a day of friendly competition on our JFK Boulevard courts.

I extend my congratulations to the tournament’s winners and all the teams that participated; and my thanks go to the Recreation Office for hosting this annual event.  Also, special thanks go to the Libro family for giving a variety of terrific prizes to the winning team – and for displaying a level of dedication to this community that would make their father, Steve, very proud.

As we all know, July Fourth is almost here – and so are the many events that are planned for this weekend and on Independence Day itself.  Because July Fourth falls on a Tuesday, I am going to call this a “Super Holiday Weekend” – and I encourage everyone to take off on Monday (if you can) and make the most of your Independence Day experience here in Sea Isle City.

If you love good music, you won’t want to miss this Saturday’s free “Concert Under the Stars” at Excursion Park, which will feature a “Chicago” tribute band that I bet will be singing “Saturday in the Park…I think it was the Fourth of July.”

In addition to this concert, there will also be other events happening that will make the Super Holiday Weekend extra-special, including our annual Junior Olympics competition for kids at Dealy Field on Independence Day, which will once again be hosted by our friends at the Yacht Club of Sea Isle City, and a colorful Fireworks Display at 9:15 p.m. on July Fourth, which will be launched from an ocean barge near our 50th Street beach.

After you enjoy the July Fourth holiday, be sure to take advantage of the free weekly summer events we have coming your way in July and August, which include our Saturday evening concerts, Movies Under the Stars, Family Fun Nights, Beachcomber Guided Tours, teen events, and other activities that are sure to please.

To learn what’s happening in Sea Isle City this summer – and throughout the year – please go to www.VISITSICNJ.com or phone our Tourism Office at 609-263-8687.

Before closing, I want to remind everyone to please “take it slow” and enjoy your time in Sea Isle City safely. No matter if you are driving, walking, or bicycling through town, please slow down and be aware of other motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians. Also, don’t forget that we recently reduced the speed limit along the entire length of Park Road to 15 mph, so please drive slowly and cautiously as you pass through Fish Alley.

“This week’s “Shout Out” goes to Jason Kelce, his wife Kylie, the other members of the Kelce family and all of the representatives from the Philadelphia Eagles, who hosted a very successful fundraiser for autism at the Ocean Drive this week.

A special “thank you” goes to Jason and Kylie for choosing Sea Isle City as their home-away-from home – and I hope that all of the other Eagles will take a page out of Jason’s book and also purchase a home here in Sea Isle City!

Have a safe and happy Fourth of July!”

Smile … You’re in Sea Isle,

Mayor Leonard C. Desiderio
