Several days after our last E-Newsletter was launched, the Sea Isle City Police Department hosted the annual National Night Out celebration at Excursion Park on August 7. I am very happy to report that this year’s NNO festivities attracted record crowds.

There are many people who helped ensure that Sea Isle’s National Night Out was a success, and I am grateful to them all. First, a great big “thank you” goes to the local business owners who contributed funds and food for NNO. Next, my thanks go to Police Chief Tom McQuillen and his fellow officers for organizing such a great evening – and for volunteering to be dunked in our annual Holiday Toy and Food Drive Dunk Tank.

More than $700 was raised at this year’s dunk tank, which will go a long way when Christmas rolls around. With that in mind, a big “thank you” also goes to everyone who stepped up and helped us raise money so families in need will have a Merry Christmas in December.

As I have often said, the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol is a fine organization that does an excellent job keeping our beachgoers safe. We are all very proud of the hard work our lifeguards perform each year.

However, we now have even more reason to be proud of them, because on August 8 the SICBP won the Bill Howarth Women’s Lifeguard Invitational in Ventnor (an event that is viewed by many beach patrols as “the” women’s competition in South Jersey). Congratulations go to Lifeguards Kristi Rohrer, Amanda Conley, Rachel Stremme, Amanda Basantis, Natalie Alleva, Meghan Sears and Madison Lewis for taking home top honors. Well done, ladies!

If you are a Philadelphia Eagles fan, I hope you can join us at Excursion Park on Sunday evening, August 19, for a free showing of a movie that spotlights the Eagles’ 2017-18 championship season. The movie will include a bit of Eagles history as well as many of the plays that helped the team take home victory during this year’s Super Bowl. E-A-G-L-E-S … Eagles!

As a reminder, I will be hosting a special Wedding Vow Renewal Ceremony at 12 noon on Saturday, September 8, at Excursion Park. All married couples who would like to join us are more than welcome to do so. Please see the special “Wedding Vow” section below for more details about this free event.

Labor Day is less than three weeks away, and I am sure many people are trying to squeeze in as much enjoyment from the remaining days of summer as possible. Who can blame them? When I was a child, my parents and grandparents would tell us pearls of wisdom such as “life goes by quickly” and “each year passes faster than the one before.” As it turns out, they were right yet again, as is evident by the fact that this summer is flying by at an alarming rate.

With that in mind, this is the perfect time to remind everyone how much fun there’s still to be had in our community in the weeks and months ahead. As I always say, “We never close in Sea Isle City,” so plan on being here as the temperatures cool down and the days grow shorter.

I guarantee you won’t want to miss our amazing autumn sunsets or the many happenings listed on our calendar of events this fall. Don’t forget that Sea Isle City’s Visitors Website www.visitsicnj.com is the only web address you need while searching for event information.  You can also speak with a tourism representative 12 months a year by phoning 609-263-8687.

Smile … You’re in Sea Isle!
