Are you tired of being stuck at home? Are you feeling trapped while watching the same old reruns on TV and hearing the dog bark for the millionth time when the doorbell rings?
Well, Sea Isle City has created a safe, family-friendly holiday event that will get you out of the house and let you venture around town while observing social distancing at the same time.
The Selfie Scavenger Hunt this Friday, Dec. 4, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. is one in a series of new contests organized by Sea Isle’s Recreation Office to replace some of the city’s traditional holiday events that were canceled because of the pandemic.
“We’re trying to give people some fun things to do during a not-so-typical holiday season,” city spokeswoman Katherine Custer said. “It’s a lighthearted event to get people out of the house in a safe and socially distant manner.”
Families are encouraged to form individual teams of no more than six household members for the contest. All ages are welcomed. Teams must stay and ride together for the duration of the event.
To enter the contest, teams must register at seaislerec.recdesk.com or call (609) 263-6163 or (609) 263-0050.
Teams will hustle around town – safely, of course, by obeying all traffic laws and CDC social distancing guidelines – to take selfies at designated spots around Sea Isle.
“We’re encouraging people to form teams of household members. We want everyone to travel through town safely and carefully,” Custer said.
Teams will have until 8:30 p.m. Friday to hit as many locations, take as many selfies and collect as many points as they can to compete for prizes for first, second and third place. Their selfies must be uploaded to Sea Isle’s Recreation Facebook page by 8:30 p.m. Friday.
The Scavenger Hunt List for the selfie spots around town will be disclosed at the start of the contest at 6 p.m. Friday at seaislerec.recdesk.com.
“There will be a long list of locations around town to go to to take selfies and submit them. There will be a number of holiday locations,” Custer said, adding that the city’s towering Christmas tree at Excursion Park is expected to be one of them.
Custer gave credit to Nicole Holt, coordinator in the Recreation Office, for coming up with the idea for the Selfie Scavenger Hunt.
Among other socially distanced holiday events planned in Sea Isle is an Ugly Sweater Contest. Details on that contest are expected to be announced Thursday.
