Each summer, the Sea Isle City Environmental Commission accepts nominations for their annual Beautification Awards, which honor local property owners who have maintained or improved the appearance of their homes, businesses or club houses, according to a city news release.

This year, 42 properties were nominated to receive awards.

Following a detailed judging process, the Environmental Commission distributed their 37th annual Beautification Awards to eight local property owners on Sept. 18 during a ceremony on the Promenade.

“We would like to thank everyone who was entered in this year’s contest and everyone who submitted entries,” said event organizer Dudley McGinty, who has been a member of the Environmental Commission for over 30 years. “We ask all property owners to keep up the good work and help keep Sea Isle City beautiful.”

The 2022 Beautification Award recipients were Eleanor Forte at 6300 Central Avenue (east unit); Richard and Mary Katherine Fazio at 16 – 62nd Street; David, Lisa and Dillan Tague at 122 – 57th Street (east unit); Kristin and Alan Butler at 4900 Pleasure Ave. (north unit); Jerry Givnish at 17 – 47th Street; the McCann Family at 21 – 44th Street; Sharon and Frank Greiner at 26 – 27th Street; and VFW Post 1963 at 301 JFK Boulevard.

After receiving his organization’s award, VFW Post 1963 Commander Mark Lloyd thanked the members of Boy Scout Troop 76 for the volunteer work they have performed in recent years in Post 1963’s gardens.

In addition to the eight Beautification Award winners, this year the Environmental Commission also presented their first “Endless Beauty” award to Charles and Joanne Bernier. The Berniers received a Beautification Award in 1998 for their home at 7313 Pleasure Ave. and have lovingly maintained their residence ever  since, the release said.

Moving forward, the Environmental Commission plans to distribute one Endless Beauty Award each year.

Each award recipient received a custom-designed plaque and a $30 gift certificate to Sea Grove Garden Center in Ocean View.
