Harborfest features good food and family-friendly entertainment along the bayfront.

The Sea Isle City Chamber of Commerce and Revitalization is gearing up for a jam-packed weekend of fun as it will host the annual Around the World Social on Friday, Sept. 27 and Harborfest on Saturday, Sept. 28.

The Around the World Social is scheduled for 6-10 p.m. at the Oar House Pub and will feature butlered hors d’oeuvres, soft music and a cash bar.

As part of the evening, representatives of the SICCCR will present Ruth Steedley with the 2019 Founders Award. This award has been presented annually since 2011 to a person in the business, civic or political community who has made notable contributions to the city of Sea Isle. Steedley, a former president of the Chamber of Commerce, has been a real estate agent with Freda Real Estate for 35 years.

Harborfest will be held the next day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Marina Park, rain or shine. This bayside festival honors Sea Isle City’s rich fishing industry, with a blessing of the fleet along with live music, specialty vendors, fun activities and fresh seafood.

The clam chowder tasting contest is one of the Harborfest highlights every year.

The Harborfest Chowder Contest kicks off at 1 p.m., featuring entries from local restaurants. For $5, guests will taste test their way through the entries, sampling each restaurant’s chowder and then placing a vote for their favorite.

Local religious leaders will participate in the blessing of the fleet ceremony at 2 p.m. The ecumenical service will be held along the fishing docks at 42nd Place and will feature traditional bagpipe music.

Following the ceremony, the raw clam-eating contest is scheduled for 3 p.m. Participants will race to eat the most raw bivalves in the shortest amount of time. This year’s winner will receive a trophy and a gift certificate to the Oar House Pub. There is a $20 entry fee; the proceeds will benefit the Mike’s Seafood Polar Bear Run/Walk for Autism.

Tickets for the Around the World Social can be purchased for $65 in advance from the Chamber and will be available at the door for $75. Tickets are available at the Oar House Pub and LaCosta Packaged Goods or via mail to Welcome Center at 300 JFK Blvd. All checks can be made payable to SICCCR.
