The following report was read by City Business Administrator George Savastano during the City Council meeting on April 9:
The beach replenishment project has started, and to date, the dredge “Liberty Island” has placed over 100,000 cubic yards of sand on the south end beaches.
The project is heading south at about 88th Street towards the southernmost point for the beachfill at 94th Street. After that, the beaches will be filled northward to about 74th Street.
Following completion of the south end, the project will move immediately to the center of town, where beaches will be replenished between about 29th and 52nd Streets.
The entire replenishment project is currently on track to be completed prior to Memorial Day weekend. Please understand the project schedule can be impacted by rough seas or mechanical issues, so let’s all hope for calm weather over the next six weeks.
Next week, South Jersey Gas will start with road paving of Landis Avenue and adjacent side streets that were dug up and temporarily restored over the past year for the installation of improved gas infrastructure.
The city is also working on several road and utility projects around town that are nearing completion. All city road projects, along with the work by SJ Gas, will be substantially completed prior to Memorial Day weekend.
Any uncompleted road work will be ceased, and the areas cleaned up prior to the Memorial Day weekend. There may be some finishing of road work after Memorial Day up until mid-June, after which all road work will be put on hold until after the summer season.
The only construction project the city intends to advance this summer is our new Community Center, on the site of the former public school in the 4500 block between Central Avenue and Park Road.
