Sea Isle City’s Division of Recreation will host the inaugural Braca Family Women’s Basketball Tournament on Saturday, June 8, starting at 9 a.m. at the JFK Boulevard basketball courts.

The new tourney is in addition to a multitude of summer camps, a popular youth basketball league, three men’s basketball tournaments and a variety of other seasonal recreation options.

The 5-on-5 competition, which is open to women age 18 and older, will include up to 12 teams competing in a double-elimination tournament, with certified referees overseeing each game.

The cost to enter the tournament is $150 per team. All players will receive a matching team jersey and a prize will be presented to the first-place team.

Teams can register and submit their entry fee online at Sea Isle City’s Rec-Desk page: https://seaislerec.recdesk.com/Community/Page?pageId=23409.

The Braca family became the namesake for this new event because they have been in Sea Isle City since 1901. They have owned numerous businesses and contributed to the community’s growth over the years.

According to recreation aide Liza Pellini, the women’s basketball tournament is a welcome addition to Sea Isle’s summer lineup of activities.

“With everything that’s going on now – especially with women’s college and professional basketball – I believe it’s very important to include women in our recreation events and give them the exposure they deserve,” said Pellini, who suggested the idea of a women’s basketball tournament in Sea Isle.

“While growing up, I always felt it was important that women have their own platform and be exposed to all of the options that men have, and I am super-excited that we will be adding women to our competitive summer events, and they will be able to participate in their own tournament this year,” Pellini added.

In addition to the new Braca Family Women’s Basketball Tournament on June 8, Sea Isle City’s Recreation Office will once again host the Bill Liddell Men’s Basketball Tournament on June 15, the Dave Farina Men’s Basketball Tournament on June 29, and the Steve Libro Men’s Basketball Tournament on July 13.
