During the “Administration Reports” portion of the Aug. 14 City Council meeting, Business Administrator George Savastano informed Council that beach tag sales have been very steady in recent weeks, and we have reached a total of $1,313,545 in overall sales as of Aug. 12 (which is an increase of $7,180 during the same time in 2017). Additionally, Mr. Savastano indicated that the City has achieved its expected budget amount for beach tag sales this year.

Also on Aug. 14, Ordinance 1624 had a second reading and public hearing. This ordinance was written to amend the existing ordinance regarding “violations and offenses” and “parks and recreation” in order to revise the wording regarding use of facilities so it coincides with State legislation for large-scale events and to solidify the City’s stance against alcohol being permitted in public spaces.

Following a productive discussion, which included comments from several members of City Council as well as statements made by Police Chief Thomas McQuillen and Chamber of Commerce President Christopher Glancey – both of whom supported the ordinance – Council voted unanimously to adopt Ordinance 1624.

Each of the ten resolutions listed on the Aug. 14 Consent Agenda was approved, including:

• Resolution 136, which demonstrated City Council’s approval of the governor’s signing of A3190/S250, which incentivized tech development at Cape May County’s airports and should bring more jobs to our area.
• Resolution 138, which authorized an amendment to the Shared Services Agreement for Municipal Engineering and Business Administration Services between Sea Isle City and Ocean City, effectively allowing Business Administrator George Savastano to continue working for both communities, which is in-line with directives from the State that municipalities should take advantage of shared service opportunities whenever possible.
• Resolution 141, which authorized the advertisement for bids for a services and maintenance contract for Sea Isle City’s water wells.
• Resolution 143, which authorized the issuance of a raffle license to the Sailing Foundation of the Yacht Club of Sea Isle City.

During the Citizen Comment portion of the Aug. 14 City Council meeting, it was announced that it is the objective of the administration to have mobi-mats (the plastic “carpets” that help beachgoers walk across the sand) installed at each street’s dune path for the summer of 2019. Currently, the city has mobi-mats at approximately every third street along our shoreline during the summer months.

Our next City Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m. inside Council Chambers, located on the third floor of City Hall. We hope to see you there.
