To thank the veterans of their organization for the sacrifices they made for this country, the members of VFW Post 1963’s Auxiliary hosted their annual “Appreciation Dinner” on Nov. 21.
The evening began with a blessing given by Auxiliary member Melissa Doyle-Waid, who is also pastor of the Sea Isle City United Methodist Church. Just before dinner was served, Post 1963 Auxiliary President Patti Lloyd warmly welcomed the veterans and thanked them for their service.
“Gentlemen, the reason we have an Auxiliary is because of you, our veterans,” Lloyd said. “Please remember that we are here for you – and we hope that we are an asset to Post 1963.”
The dinner included a variety of homemade dishes, which were prepared by the Auxiliary members and served to the veterans by members of Boy Scout Troop 76. Afterward, Brownies from Girl Scout Troop 41012 walked from table to table, handing each veteran homemade sweets.
“The Auxiliary did an outstanding job preparing the festivities for the veterans of Post 1963,” said Mike Rodgers, who served with the U.S. Army’s Public Information Office from 1965 to 1968 and was a combat photographer during the Vietnam War for one year.
“The local Boy Scout troop did a wonderful job serving the dinner, under the guidance of Troop Leader Bob Day; and the local Brownies, who arrived with cookies for the veterans, were also wonderful. It was an enjoyable evening for all of us who had a pleasure to attend,” Rodgers added.
