This morning, Sea Isle City officials participated in a meeting with Cape May County’s Office of Emergency Management regarding the strong weather system that is currently impacting our region – and unfortunately, we still have very serious weather heading our way.
Today in Sea Isle, we can once again expect rain, strong winds, and moderate-to-major tidal flooding in our roadways and low-lying areas – just as we saw occur yesterday.
Today’s high tide in Sea Isle is expected to begin around 3 p.m. and will likely linger as it did yesterday, with flooding in our streets that will remain well after high tide. Also, tomorrow’s conditions are expected to be very similar to what we experience today, with rain, strong winds and flooding through Tuesday.
Prior to today’s high tide, I encourage everyone to move your vehicles to higher ground – such as the parking lot of the Sea Isle City Library and other areas that are not typically susceptible to flooding.
As always, please do not drive through flooded streets. Not only is driving through flood waters unsafe for you and your passengers, the wake your vehicle creates can injure pedestrians and damage nearby properties and gardens.
Yesterday, many motorists opted to drive on sidewalks and on private front yards — which is unacceptable, because you never know what objects are hidden under flood waters and what damage you leave behind as you drive away.
At this point, Tuesday’s curbside trash and recycling collections are expected to take place as planned from 70th Street to 94th Street. However, if that changes, we will let you know in a separate alert. That being said, please do not put your trash or recycling on the curb until early Tuesday morning, because the overnight winds and floods could knock over your trash cans.
As an alternative to curbside pickups, you can utilize Sea Isle’s Trash and Recycling Drop-off Depot, which is located near the JFK Bridge and is open every day from 7:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
Please follow all of the directives I just mentioned – and take all precautions to keep yourself, your vehicle and your property safe.
