Drenching rain, street flooding and a tornado warning gave Sea Isle City some wild weather Tuesday.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Cape May County at 11:33 a.m., but canceled it shortly before noon. Sea Isle, Woodbine, Dennisville, Goshen and Seaville were among the areas of concern for a possible tornado before the warning was lifted shortly before noon.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms generated by a slow-moving low pressure system soaked the shore. More than 4 inches of rain were reported in Woodbine.

A weather alert issued by the Sea Isle Police Department at about 12:45 p.m. warned motorists about street flooding.

“Please use caution while driving through town. Due to the heavy rainfall in a short amount of time, we are currently experiencing flooding throughout town. High tide is expected to be between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.,” according to the alert.
