Sea Isle City resident Lily Capone, a highly ranked 12-year-old equestrian who first rode a horse at 2, was honored Tuesday by city officials as she prepares to compete in a national event.
She is currently ranked among the top sixteen competitive horseback riders in her age group nationally. On April 26, she is traveling to Harrisburg, Pa., to compete in the Interscholastic Equestrian Association’s Hunt Seat National Finals.
To congratulate Lily on her recent successes and wish her well during the upcoming IEA finals, Sea Isle Mayor Leonard Desiderio invited her to the City Council meeting Tuesday.
The mayor and members of Council honored the young rider with a plaque and words of encouragement. Lily was joined by her family for the presentation.
“We are very, very proud of Lily,” Desiderio said. “To be in the top sixteen in the nation is quite an accomplishment, and we expect many great things from her.”
