This is the time of year when homes are susceptible to cold weather conditions, in particular, cold temperatures that may lead to frozen pipes.

All Sea Isle City residents and property owners are reminded of the following:

  • If you are planning to be away from your home for any length of time, it is best to have a professional clear out your pipes and winterize your plumbing system (inside and out).
  • If you choose not to winterize your home’s plumbing system and you plan to be away for any length of time, turn off your water at the main valve to help limit the amount of potential damage you may experience in the event that your pipes freeze and burst.
  • Raise your home’s thermostat to a higher temperature during cold stretches.
  • Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around the plumbing, especially if your sinks are on an exterior wall.
  • Allow water to run a “trickle” from sinks in bathrooms and kitchens that may be susceptible to freezing pipes.
  • Have a neighbor or a certified “House Sitter” check on your property and ensure that it is prepared for extreme weather.
  • If a neighbor’s unoccupied home has water running from the house to the gutter, please phone Police Dispatch at 609-263-4311.
  • If you have any concerns about your home’s plumbing, call a professional plumber for assistance.
