Mayor Leonard Desiderio recognized some of the wonderful children who call Sea Isle City home by using money from an earlier fundraising effort to send seven youngsters to summer day camps.

After being notified of the honor, each of this year’s “Summer Camp Scholarship” recipients was given the opportunity to attend the program that appealed to them the most from a list of day camps and sports clinics being offered through Sea Isle’s Division of Recreation.

They were also invited to attend a recent City Council meeting, where the mayor asked each child to approach the dais and pose for photos – resulting in rounds of applause from the members of Council and the audience.

As Desiderio introduced the boys and girls during the meeting, he also announced which program each child will attend.

This summer, Jose Fraga, Diana Fraga, Carlos Herrera and Dylan Ramirez will improve their athletic prowess at Villanova Soccer Camp; Britany Fraga will explore her creative talents at Maverick Art Camp; Danna Ramirez will sharpen her test-taking skills while attending the Advance Test Review SAT Camp; and Clare Capone will enhance her dribbling, shooting and passing skills at Casiello Basketball Camp.

“It’s great to see that Sea Isle City has a bright future, thanks to young leaders such as our scholarship recipients,” Desiderio said. “I am very happy that they are taking part in our summer camps – and I wish them all the best.”
