Longtime Eagles' offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland announced Wednesday evening that he's leaving the team, but the organization has gotten some positive news regarding Nick Sirianni's coaching staff since.
First of all, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reported late Wednesday night that Vic Fangio will indeed return for a third season as defensive coordinator.
Fangio returning is obviously a major development, considering Nick Sirianni has an offensive background, so the 67-year-old has the keys on that side of the ball in many senses. Fangio is considered one of the best defensive minds of his generation, with the Eagles having ranked No. 5 in total defense this past season.
Jimmy Kempski of Philly Voice reported last weekend that Fangio had told the Eagles he planned to retire. While they were able to talk him off that ledge, as of last weekend it wasn't set in stone that Fangio would be back for 2026. Apparently, now it is.
On the other side of the ball, while new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion now needs to find an offensive line coach to replace Stoutland, he and the Eagles have made another hire.
NFL Media's Ian Rapoport says that the Eagles have hired Ryan Mahaffey to be their run game coordinator and tight ends coach.
Mahaffey, 38, has spent the last five seasons in various roles on Matt LaFleur's staff with the Green Bay Packers, where Mannion was also plucked from. Mahaffey began as a quality control coach in 2021, and then later worked as an assistant offensive line coach (2021-2022) and wide receivers coach (2024-2025).
