A collaboration between the Atlantic City Beach Patrol and police helped rescue a shore bird over the weekend.
The bird apparently was spotted in the water entangled in a fishing net. It was a cormorant, a large seabird common at the Jersey Shore.
Police Officer Taylor Brooks, who is one of the departments Humane Law Enforcement officers, reached out to lifeguard Lou Parks to help with getting the bird, Beach Patrol Chief Steve Downey told BreakingAC.
Brooks was a member of the Beach Patrol before becoming a police officer.
Parks came to the call on the patrol's personal watercraft.
The scene was captured by Stay Smart Adventures, and posted to their YouTube channel Saturday.
As Parks rides up, the cormorant ducks into the water.
Brooks, who is on a nearby Inlet jetty with another officer, hands Parks a net.
He then circles around the area, where the bird pops up again and immediately goes back in the water.
On the next appearance, Parks successfully gets the cormorant in the net, which is met by cheers from bystanders watching the rescue.
Parks then acknowledges his success to his new fans as he circles back to the jetty and hands off the net to Brooks.
No further information was immediately available about the rescue.
