Sea Isle City has reached new contract agreements with the union representing clerical staff and Public Works employees and supervisors.
The four-year deals with the Communications Workers of America Local 1036 are retroactive to 2024 and will carry through to Dec. 31, 2027. They include a clause that the contracts may be extended through 2028 by mutual agreement from both sides.
“The city has been negotiating with these unions for some time now, and we’ve arrived at agreements that are fair and reasonable for our employees and our taxpayers,” Mayor Leonard Desiderio said in a statement.
Voting 5-0, City Council ratified the contracts during a meeting Tuesday. The union membership has voted to approve the agreements, Desiderio said.
Key points of the contracts include annual raises of 3.5 percent, plus an adjustment in base salaries of $875 each year.
The Council resolutions ratifying the agreements between the city and the union did not specify the salary ranges for the employees.
The contracts lay out the terms for employees to receive overtime for working beyond their normal hours.
The agreements also provide for the continuation of healthcare benefits under the same Blue Cross/Blue Shield plan currently in place in Sea Isle. The city will also provide employees with a vision and dental plan.
The contracts call for the continuation of employee contributions to the healthcare plan consistent with New Jersey state law for public workers.
