Coastal Flood Watch and Storm Watch

This is a message from Sea Isle City’s Office of Emergency Management:

The National Weather Service’s Coastal Flood Watch and Storm Watch for Sea Isle City and the surrounding region are still in effect.

Significant impacts from a strong coastal storm appear increasingly likely for our area on Sunday and Monday.

The severity of impacts to Sea Isle City will depend on the exact track of the storm, which remains uncertain. Significant coastal flooding, strong damaging winds, significant waves, and beach erosion are most likely to affect our area.

Moderate to major coastal flooding is possible during high tides on Sunday and Monday. Critical high tides are expected on Sunday at approximately 12:30 p.m. and on Monday at approximately 1 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Storm force wind gusts greater than 55 mph and seas up to 20 feet are possible.

Heavy rain up to three inches or more will also be a factor.

Flooding of roads and some structures near the ocean, back bays, and tidal waterways is expected.

TAKE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS:

Do not attempt to drive through standing water on the streets, even if the water level appears “passable.” Vehicles can easily be damaged or destroyed by salt water. Plus, the wake your vehicle creates can damage nearby properties and gardens, and push pedestrians to the ground.

Please move vehicles to a higher location – to offshore locations if possible.

Secure any loose belongings on your property so they do not become hazards.

Be a good neighbor: Advise neighbors and visitors who are unfamiliar with coastal storms to heed these warnings.

TRASH COLLECTIONS:

Curbside trash and recycling collections will take place one day later than usual during the week ahead: Monday’s collection will happen on Tuesday; Tuesday’s collections will be on Wednesday; etc.

The Trash & Recycling Drop-Off Depot (adjacent to the Sea Isle Bridge) will be open on Sunday and Monday unless flooding prevents the facility from opening.
