Atlantic City Electric has vowed to work with the newly elected governor on her pledge to lower electricity costs.
Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill has said that on her first day in office, she would propose a state of emergency that would allow her to freeze utility rates.
“When I take office, the average New Jersey family won’t see an increase in utility rates for an entire year,” she said at an event in August.
"We are eager to work with Gov.-elect Sherrill on long-term solutions to energy affordability, including community solar, battery storage, and other solutions like regulated generation, which would allow community-minded public utilities like Atlantic City Electric to start generating more power in New Jersey," Atlantic City Electric wrote in a news release Wednesday, congratulating the four-term congresswoman.
The company wrote that its partnership with SHARES to launch a $4 million Customer Relief Fund illustrates their commitment.
"Atlantic City Electric has been part of southern New Jersey’s community fabric for more than 100 years. We understand our communities are struggling with high energy costs because our employees are the neighbors, friends, and families that make up these communities," the release stated. "We will continue to step up and are ready to work hand in hand with Gov.-Elect Sherrill to get energy costs under control for all New Jerseyans."
