VFW Post 1963 Commander Joe McLenaghan exchanges a salute with Harry Strack during the presentation of a memorial wreath in the 2024 Memorial Day ceremony.
Sea Isle City’s annual Memorial Day ceremony will be held 10 a.m. Monday at Veterans Park, JFK Boulevard and Landis Avenue.
The public is invited to attend the event, hosted by Mayor Leonard Desiderio. Sea Isle City Council members, local religious leaders and VFW Post 1963’s Honor Guard will also be in attendance.
Patriotic hymns and bagpipe music will be performed, guest speakers will honor and remember the veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, and floral wreaths will be placed around the park’s Memorial Fountain.
Afterwards, Boy Scout Troop 76 will lead a procession to the JFK Boulevard beach and then the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol will row flowers out beyond the breakers for a Naval Tribute.
“While many people may look forward to family barbecues and celebrating the arrival of the summer season on Memorial Day, we should not forget that it is, most importantly, a day to honor the men and women of our nation’s military who lost their lives while fighting for our country,” Desiderio said in a statement.
The mayor is urging residents and vacationers to fly the American flag at home to commemorate Memorial Day if they are unable to attend the city’s ceremony at Veterans Park.
