Motorists entering and leaving Sea Isle City on John F. Kennedy Boulevard will be greeted by a new attraction just in time for the summer tourism season.
The city has purchased a new outdoor digital sign costing $65,150 to promote Sea Isle and its special events.
The primary purpose of the new video display sign is to keep people informed about upcoming events and activities, city spokeswoman Katherine Custer said.
Sea Isle will be able to program the sign with different messages to advertise just about anything the city wants to promote, including its lineup of family-friendly entertainment and special events over the summer.
It will also be a source of important information, such as reminding everyone to buy their beach tags for the summer and to stay off the environmentally fragile dunes, Custer noted.
The sign will measure 6-feet-by-9-feet and be mounted on an 8-foot-tall base, making it easy for motorists to spot at its location on JFK Boulevard at the corner of Central Avenue.
“Installation will happen this spring, but the plan is to have it in use by this summer,” Custer said.
John F. Kennedy Boulevard is the main route entering and leaving Sea Isle.The sign’s vendor, Numeritex, says it includes a weatherproof design. It comes with a five-year warranty.
It will be double-sided so that motorists will be able to read the messages entering and leaving town on the JFK Boulevard corridor, the main gateway into Sea Isle.
The high-definition sign will be easy to read both during the day and at night. It will represent a significant upgrade from an old, low-tech highway-style sign that Sea Isle previously had on JFK Boulevard for public announcements.
In 2022, Sea Isle bought an $11,545 kiosk-style digital sign that occupies a prominent spot next to Excursion Park at the entranceway to the Promenade at the ocean end of JFK Boulevard.
“Smile! You’re in Sea Isle!” the kiosk sign proclaims to everyone walking by it. Like the much bigger digital sign that will make its debut this summer, the multi-media kiosk is programmable to advertise Sea Isle’s special events and activities, important reminders and basic information such as the date, time and temperature.
A digital sign next to the Promenade is another source of information in town.
