The Best Places to Visit From Sea Isle Without Leaving the State

There is something special about living close to the shore, but for those who live in Sea Isle City, NJ, it’s their daily reality. Even if you’re just vacationing in Sea Isle, it’s a beautiful part of the state. During the peak summer season, the beaches, shops, and restaurants get pretty busy with the influx of tourists. It seems like everyone is aware of just how cute and welcoming this town is.

For those who are looking to branch out a bit and visit other areas near Sea Isle without having to leave New Jersey, the good news is that you’ve got lots to choose from. So let’s get right to it and take a look.

The Iconic Jersey Shore Boardwalks

Boardwalks line the Jersey Shore from north to south, so it’s not just a matter of one, but many. Choosing to visit “the boardwalk” opens up several options—it’s just a matter of what kind of activities you’re in the mood for. The good news is that each boardwalk is very close to Sea Isle, so it’s not a long drive.

Seaside Heights is a one-mile-long boardwalk area that features classic and modern amusement rides, kids’ rides, shops, restaurants, attractions, and entertainment. Because of its family-friendly atmosphere, it’s ideal if you’ve got kids.

Point Pleasant Boardwalk is also a mile long and filled with activities. One of the big highlights is Jenkinson’s Aquarium, a great place to spend a few hours. Other activities on this boardwalk include visiting Sinatra House, where you’ll be treated to all the classics from “Ol’ Blue Eyes,” mini golfing, a fun house, and an extreme 7D dark ride. The stretch of beach is nice and wide here, perfect for sunbathing or playing in the waves.

There’s also Wildwood Boardwalk, which boasts all the typical boardwalk attractions plus the Morey’s Piers & Beachfront Waterparks. The carnival rides will fill you with nostalgia, and the Sightseer Tram Car is a great way to do some sightseeing.

New Jersey Provides Plenty of Casino Action

One thing that the state is well-known for is its casino action. Home to Atlantic City, which boasts all kinds of luxury casino resorts, there’s always the option to play some games when the mood strikes. Since Atlantic City is about 30 miles from Sea Isle, it is close enough for an evening or weekend getaway. There are three main transportation options from Sea Isle to Atlantic City: driving, taxi, or bus.

Even if you don’t feel like driving to Atlantic City, with mobile slots you can have fun and win money as long as you are still in the state and open to playing online.

Besides the casinos, there is also the Atlantic City Boardwalk, Steel Pier amusement park, Absecon Lighthouse, the Tanger Outlets Atlantic City, Playground Pier, the IMAX Theatre at Tropicana, Playcade Arcade, and the Central Pier Arcade.

Visit Trenton and Explore the State’s Capital

If you’re the type who likes learning about an area’s history, a trip to Trenton is in order. This is the capital city of New Jersey but was once the capital of the United States for a brief time in 1784. This is a longer drive than if you were to head to the boardwalks, but it can still be worth the trip.

Some of the highlights in Trenton include the New Jersey State Museum, the Old Barracks Museum, the 1719 William Trent House, the Trenton Battle Monument, and the Trenton City Museum/Ellarslie Museum. Depending on what time of year you visit Trenton, there may also be some farmers’ markets to check out.

High Octane Fun at Six Flags Great Adventure

There are always those people who love high-octane fun and non-stop thrills. If that sounds like you, Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson is a must. This park offers rides and attractions for all ages and even has new offerings coming in 2025. A brand-new Safari Off-Road Adventure and The Flash: Vertical Velocity both open up later this year.

A Unique Experience at Lakota Wolf Preserve

Most major cities have zoos, but what about a non-profit animal preserve? The Lakota Wolf Preserve in Columbia provides a unique experience where you get to see wolves, bobcats, lynx, and foxes in their element. Each of these endangered animals is breathtaking to see, and the tours are meant to be educational. There are even photography sessions for those who want to take home photo memories.

Appeal to the Budding Scientist in Your Kids at Liberty Science Center

It’s impossible to list all the attractions in the state, but the Liberty Science Center deserves a shout-out. Located in Jersey City, this is another destination that is a longer drive but well worth it. You could always make a weekend of it, exploring other highlights in Jersey City.

The center is focused on STEM programming, creative thinking, and collaboration. Some of the attractions and limited-time exhibitions include the Infinity Climber, the Blue Whale exhibition, The Liberty Express mini passenger train, Touch Tunnel, Wobbly World, Dino Dig Adventure, and a special LSC After Dark event that happens every Thursday night for those 18 years of age and older.

Stay in Sea Isle and Explore the Many Great Nearby Attractions and Cities

Part of what makes Sea Isle such a fabulous place to visit or live is its proximity to New Jersey’s many highlights. Within a short drive, you can be at a top-ranked amusement park, exploring the beaches, strolling down world-class boardwalks, and more. The hardest part will be prioritizing the options on this list because you’re going to want to do them all.
