Roman Sledziejowski is a notable figure in the world of finance, recognized for his early start in the industry and his knack for innovative business ventures. His journey presents a fascinating story of ambition and strategic foresight, marked by significant achievements from a young age.

Early Life and Education

Sledziejowski was born in Poland and emigrated to the United States, where he embarked on a path that would see him rise through the ranks of American finance. He began his career remarkably early, diving into the world of investment banking at just 17 years old. This early exposure came through a part-time role at Salomon Smith Barney, a division of Travelers Group, in New York City. His high school years were distinguished not only by academic excellence, as evidenced by his position as valedictorian, but also by athletic prowess. Sledziejowski captained the varsity soccer team and garnered the annual MVP distinction for three consecutive years.

His academic journey continued at Columbia University, where he pursued studies in Economics. During his university years, Sledziejowski balanced his academic commitments with his burgeoning career in finance. At the age of 18, he achieved a significant milestone by becoming the youngest NASD-licensed stockbroker in the United States, a testament to his early dedication and acumen.

Rising Through the Ranks

Sledziejowski’s career trajectory is marked by rapid advancement within the financial sector. By 2002, he had assumed the role of Vice President of Investments at Prudential Securities in New York City. His talent and leadership skills soon earned him further promotions, and by 2004, he held the position of First Vice President of Investments.

Sledziejowski's career took a significant leap forward when, at the age of 25, he became the Senior Vice President and Investment Officer at Wachovia Securities. At that time, Wachovia was the third-largest investment firm in the United States, overseeing substantial assets across numerous offices. His role not only involved managing vast financial portfolios but also provided him with the opportunity to engage in personal investment ventures.

Entrepreneurial Ventures

While at Wachovia Securities, Sledziejowski began investing in real estate, specifically in multi-family rental properties across New York, Tennessee, and Arkansas. This period between 2004 and 2009 saw him purchase and redevelop nearly 400 residential units through various partnerships.

In 2006, he founded Innovest Holdings, a New York City-based financial holding company with a diversified portfolio. Innovest operated through multiple subsidiaries, including TWS Financial, LLC, a full-service broker/dealer, and TradeWallStreet.com, an online broker/dealer platform. These ventures showcased Sledziejowski’s ability to foresee market needs and create platforms to meet them, catering primarily to high-net-worth individuals and international financial institutions.

International Expansion

Sledziejowski continued to expand his business interests internationally. In 2007, he co-founded MyPlace Development, a real estate development company in Poznan, Poland, alongside Sebastian Kulczyk. Roman served as the Chairman of the Board until early 2010, when he sold his stake in the company. This move demonstrated his strategic approach to business development and his ability to navigate and leverage international markets effectively.

Significant Achievements

Sledziejowski’s career has been punctuated by significant achievements, driven by his ability to adapt and innovate within the financial industry. One of his notable accomplishments was the founding of Innovest Holdings in 2006. Innovest became a powerhouse through its various subsidiaries, such as TWS Financial, a full-service broker/dealer that handled over $500 million in annual market transactions. The company also included TradeWallStreet.com, an innovative online broker/dealer platform that catered to individual investors worldwide. These ventures not only highlighted his vision for innovative financial platforms but also underscored his capacity to build diverse business models tailored to different market segments.

Despite the setbacks during the 2008 financial crisis, where Innovest subsidiaries faced significant asset losses, Roman Sledziejowski demonstrated resilience by attempting to recapitalize the business. Although a proposed sale of a controlling stake in TWS Financial did not materialize, his efforts to stabilize and navigate through turbulent times showcased his determination and strategic thinking.

Impact on the Industry

Sledziejowski has had a lasting impact on the financial sector, particularly in how he integrated technology with traditional financial services. His approach of combining real estate investment with financial services through Innovest Holdings and its subsidiaries illustrates a strategic merging of industries that few had ventured into at the time. This integration not only diversified his business interests but also provided a platform to influence the development of financial services that cater to a global clientele.

His work in real estate, particularly through MyPlace Development, also left a mark on the Polish real estate market. By co-founding the company and serving as Chairman of the Board until 2010, he helped develop significant projects in Poznan, Poland. This role demonstrated his ability to operate successfully in international markets, leveraging his expertise in finance to make strategic real estate investments.

Current Work and Endeavors

In recent years, Sledziejowski has continued to evolve and expand his professional interests. In 2013, he co-founded Savant Strategies, an international management consulting firm. The foundation reflects his commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and supporting small businesses, translating his business acumen into philanthropic efforts that empower others.
