Mayor's Message: Feb. 20

Sea Isle City Mayor Leonard Desiderio

Earlier this month, I was honored to visit VFW Post 1963, where the members of the post’s Auxiliary were kind enough to present me with an authentic blue Auxiliary jacket and some very kind words for supporting their organization over the years.

Needless to say, it is more than my pleasure to give any and all assistance I can to the veterans of our local VFW – and the members and their amazing Auxiliary, which, with over 700 members, is the largest VFW Auxiliary in the State of New Jersey!

I want to extend my sincerest gratitude to everyone at Post 1963’s Auxiliary for their continual kindness to me and for all of the work they perform year after year in support of our nation’s veterans and active-duty military members. Thank you, VFW Auxiliary!

Even though we experienced some rain and chilly temperatures, Presidents Weekend in Sea Isle City was very successful – thanks mainly to the many people who were in town to enjoy the variety of dining, shopping, and entertainment options that were offered by our local business community.

Moreover, thousands of folks were here simply to support the annual Mike’s Seafood Run-Walk for Autism, which took place on Saturday, February 15.

My thanks go to all of Sea Isle City’s merchants, who helped our property owners and visitors shake off the winter blues with dinner specials, retail discounts and a variety of other Presidents Weekend deals.

Also, a great big “thank you” goes to Mike and Jeannie Monichetti for hosting yet another tremendous Run-Walk for Autism, which not only raised huge amounts of money for a cause that they hold very near and dear to their hearts, but also increased autism awareness and reminded people that “any day you can do something for children with disabilities, it’s a good day.”

Now that 2025 Valentine’s Day and Presidents Weekend have come and gone, many of us are looking forward to celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day in Sea Isle City – and also enjoying Sea Isle’s annual Saint Patrick’s Parade, which takes place on Saturday, March 15, at 3:30 p.m.

The parade will run along Landis Avenue from 82nd to 63rd Street, where spectators can enjoy a variety of parade participants, including our 2025 Irish Man and Irish Woman of the Year, representatives from local civic organizations, and many other well-attired Irish revelers. For more information about this year’s parade, please phone 609-263-6341.

In my most recent newsletter message, I announced the names of the bands that will be performing this summer during our Saturday evening “Concerts Under the Stars” at Excursion Park. Today, I am happy to announce the lineup for our 2025 “Movies Under the Stars” at Excursion Park, which will once again take place on Wednesday nights starting June 25.

This year’s movie schedule will include:

  • July 9: “The Wild Robot” (2024)
