Adam Schefter belives there's 'a real chance' Mekhi Becton remains with Eagles

Mekhi Becton led the Eagles out of the tunnel before Super Bowl LIX, and it sounds like the blowout victory over the Kansas City Chiefs might not have been his finale in Midnight Green.

Appearing on 97.5 The Fanatic Wednesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter suggested as such:

Becton was the No. 11 overall pick out of Louisville by the New York Jets in the 2020 NFL Draft, and while he flashed immense talent, injuries and the general dysfunction of that organization led to him being labeled a bust and lasting just four years with his original team. 

Howie Roseman and the Eagles bet on the physical gifts of Becton last offseason, signing him to a one-year/$2.75 million pillow contract as he tried to revive his career. Becton kicked inside to right guard after having been a tackle with the Jets. At 6-foot-7, 363 pounds, Becton fit the build of the type of player you would theoretically want protecting the blind side of your franchise quarterback. But as a guard? He's probably one of the most physically-intimidating players to ever play that spot, especially when you consider he's lined up to the left of Lane Johnson, a potential future Hall of Famer. 

The Eagles also have to figure out how they proceed with other impending free agents like Josh Sweat, Zach Baun and Milton Williams, but does it make sense to prioritize keeping Becton — who seemingly enjoyed being in a stable organization — when he's still only 25? Probably. As is, he's tremendous at right guard. And whenever Johnson, who will play next season at 35, retires, Becton could potentially kick back out to tackle.
