New Jersey Native Poker Pro Tom Dwan Lands Deal With Americas Cardroom

High-stakes poker player Tom Dwan has signed on to be a Team Pro for America's Cardroom (ACR Poker). A regular at super high stakes events and televised cash games, the poker pro and cash game specialist will be playing online for the platform under his screen name "durrrr."

The New Jersey native began playing poker in the early 2000s and quickly became known for his aggressive and bold playing style, allowing him to earn big winnings and climb up the poker ranks. This captured the attention of CEO Phil Nagy, who shares a similar outlook on online poker and believes Dwan is a great fit for ACR Poker's mentality. The partnership aims to bring more interaction and games involving Dwan, with the poker platform hoping to bring more poker awareness to national and international audiences and fans.

Joining America's Cardroom

Tom Dwan is not the first notable name in poker to become a Team Pro. He joins other top players on the America's Card Room roster. Chris Moneymaker is one of the platform's most well-known pros, having revolutionized the game after his historic win at the World Series of Poker in 2003, which he qualified for on an online poker site. Other big names signed with ACR are Chris Moorman, Ebony Kenney, and Nacho Barbero. The online poker site has been dealing cards since 2001, and has become one of the most trusted platforms in the country. Aside from its list of poker pros, the platform is known for its reliability, security, and exciting tournaments.

Tom Dwan's poker career

Tom Dwan was born in Edison, New Jersey, where he worked at McDonald's before playing poker. He also attended Boston University but dropped out to play poker full-time. He started with an initial deposit of $50 on an online poker site. When he switched to Full Tilt, he was able to compete with the likes of top players like Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies, Viktor "Isildur1" Blom, and Phil Ivey. From 2007 to 2011, he racked up $2.2 million in high-stakes cash games. Aside from the online scene, he also became popular for live tournaments and televised appearances, including on NBC's National Heads-Up Poker Championship, Poker After Dark, and GSN's High Stakes Poker. He broke records after winning a $3.1 million pot against Wesley Fei in the Million Dollar Game at Hustler Casino Live in 2023—the largest cash pot in televised poker history. It also broke his previous record of scoring a $1.1 million pot during Full Tilt Poker's Million Dollar Cash Game. He's also found success in the World Poker Tour, World Series of Poker, and high buy-in tournaments like the Triton Poker Series, where he's often won a spot on the final table. He's even caught the eye of actors like Emile Hirsch, who played a poker game with Dwan in preparation for the crime thriller film Dead Money. In total, his earnings amount to $6.5 million.

Up next for Dwan and ACR

Dwan's partnership with America's Cardroom will provide more opportunities for fans and players to connect with the poker player and watch him in action. Fans can enjoy "Durrr's Game," a regularly streamed high-stakes game that aims to resurrect and echo the high-stakes cash games of the past. Dwan participates and competes with a number of other high-profile players. Though the games are meant to offer a sense of nostalgia and thrill, it also involves experimenting with new formats and features. ACR is also set to benefit from this milestone signing, as Dwan has garnered quite the following thanks to participating in and becoming a regular in high-stakes games over the past 20 years.
