A Lower Township man who was found with more than 1,000 images of child sexual abuse is free after serving about 20 months of a five-year sentence.
Jason Brown, now 44, was released from South Woods State Prison on Monday, just more than seven months after he was sentenced, state Department of Corrections records show.
Brown had credit for nearly 13 months spent in the Cape May County Correctional Facility when he pleaded guilty to second-degree possession of child sexual assault materials.
He could have faced 10 years in prison, but was sentenced to five years under the plea agreement, according to court paperwork obtained by BreakingAC. There was no mandatory minimum.
Brown also was sentenced to a concurrent term of three years for a third-degree drug charge.
A National Center for Missing and Exploited Children CyberTip sparked the investigation into a suspect downloading, possessing and distributing these videos and images.
A warrant was executed at Brown's Cloverdale Avenue home, where two computers, a camera, various prescription legend drugs and a cell phone were seized, authorities said at the time of his arrest.
Brown must register as a Megan's Law offender and is subject to lifetime parole supervision.
