Carson Wentz says 'there's definitely no hard feelings' regarding Eagles exit

For the second time in his career, Carson Wentz is going to be present at a Super Bowl that the Eagles are playing in. And if all goes according to plan, he once again won't play in the game.

Wentz, of course, had a likely-MVP season halted in 2017 when he tore his left ACL in early December. Nick Foles became a folk hero in Philadelphia in his absence, guiding the Eagles to their first Super Bowl title in franchise history.

This time around, Wentz could see game action. At the very least, he'll be active on gameday. But he'll be backing up Patrick Mahomes, so there's very little chance he enters the game.

Still, it is crazy for Wentz to be preparing for a Super Bowl against the Eagles, the team that he was once the franchise quarterback for. He spoke about his time with the Eagles during Super Bowl Media Night.

"Yeah, obviously it was a tough ending, without a doubt," Wentz told Eliot Shorr-Parks of SportsRadio 94 WIP. "I mean, it was the COVID year too, so everything about it was just weird, the way it kind of unfolded.

"But, a lot of great memories," Wentz continued. "For me, it was buying my first house ... getting married ... all sorts of things in life ... had my first kid when we lived in Philly. So it's a lot of great memories, a lot of good times. Winning the Super Bowl was amazing ... a lot of memories and friendships that I'll have for the rest of my life.

"So there's definitely no hard feelings. You wish it would have gone a different way, all those things. But you can't really have any kind of regrets on that front."

Wentz went on to praise both Foles and Jalen Hurts, two players he shared a quarterback room with during his five seasons with the Eagles. He also declined to say whether he would attend a 10-year reunion for the 2017 Super Bowl team in a few years, and there's a real chance that until he was asked that last night, it's not something he had spent much time thinking about.

Now 32, Wentz got the chance to start for the Chiefs in Week 18 with Mahomes resting. A good performance might have put him back in the mix to potentially be a bridge quarterback somewhere in 2025. Instead, he completed 10 of 17 pass attempts for just 98 yards as the Chiefs were throttled 38-0 by the Denver Broncos. Never say never, but that game might have slammed the door shut on the former No. 2 overall pick ever getting a chance to start again in the league.

Perhaps one day, Wentz will get the chance to step in for an injured star and run with it like Foles did. But not every story has a great redemption arc.
