Former Philadelphia tight end Brent Celek will not be on the field for the Birds on February 9. But his help just might tip the scales in what is expected to be a close game between the Eagles and Chiefs.
At Friday's practice, Eagles safeties Reed Blankenship and C.J. Gardner Johnson practiced man coverage against Celek in an attempt to prepare for Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

The Eagles' secondary struggled against Zach Ertz in the Commanders game. Ertz led all receivers in both receptions (11) and receiving yards (104). Kelce and KC head coach Andy Reid are likely salivating at the thought of Kelce terrorizing the Eagles with an even bigger day.

The Birds selected Celek in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL draft. He ended up playing his entire 11-year career with the team, racking up about 5,000 career yards and 31 touchdowns. He retired as a Super Bowl champion after the 2017 season.

The lesser Kelce brother is going to get his fair share of catches in Super Bowl LIX. But if Eagles defenders break up one or two of his crucial targets, know that Celek's efforts may have made a difference.
